late night crafting ...

Hello all,

An unusually late night post, it's currently the early hours of the morning and for some reason I can not sleep. Instead of trying to read a book or listen to some chilled music to help me sleep I instead have made my brain even more active by getting a little crafty. I have a little tin box on my bedside table with yarns, charms and such things stuffed inside so I had a little rummage through and started to mess around making things. This literally only took me 20 mins to do and I think it's kind of sweet. I've noticed that the high street is full of bracelets of this style, just in time for festival season. A single cord with a charm on, or simply braided yarns and are charging a couple of pounds over what they really should be. So this is my alternative. I'm onto my second one now... looks like sleep deprivation makes for creative thinking.

Late night crafting... you never know, it might catch on!

Not the best quality photo, blame my not so modern mobile phone camera for that!

Good night all.

Enjoy

always anthro ...

Hello all,
I started today by looking online for a new design or styling book, and as usual ended up heading straight to the Anthropologie website. This has to be one of my all time favourite stores and their website is just as good. I can't go instore or on the website without compiling a "wish list" in my head... a wish list that is so huge it's almost laughable. It's a given that I adore all of the clothing Anthropolgie offers, especially the dresses, but their home products are really beautiful too.

I'm a sucker for cushions and glassware so I was overly excited when I saw all of the colourful and eclectic pieces on their website today. There are so many brilliant pieces that I had to create a little "wish list", one of my most realistic ones to date as none of the products on this list are that expensive and all are perfectly practical. So with my birthday not too far away, maybe I'll be able to make my way through the list... you never know!

all of these beauts are available on the Anthro website... lucky us!!

Hope you enjoy

a bath of colour ...

Hello all,
So after I came across some rather pretty perfume bottles online today all I wanted to do was decorate the ultimate bathroom, a space not only tranquil but stylish and contemporary too. There are so many beautiful examples out there, some of which I have pulled below.

I really like the introduction of colour in these bathrooms, whether it's on the wall, the wallpaper or even the basin, it makes such a difference in making the room look more contemporary and unique.

Now all I need is a roll top bath and a splash of Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey bath oil.

Oh it'snice to dream ...

to hang from string ...

Another sunshine filled day, I could certainly get used to this weather. I decided to take full of advantage of this sunny Sunday and do a little crafting outside in the sun. Since graduating I've had a pile of boxes with lovely pieces of scrap fabrics and swatches tucked inside, a lot of them are beautiful fabrics that I was sent when I was compiling my market research folder and it really is a waste for them to be stuck inside a boring old Ikea box.... there was only one thing for it... bunting! I absolutely love bunting, garlands, lanterns, basically anything you can hang from a string and make look pretty.

Before I started to stitch away I thought I'd seek some inspiration and came across these beauties below. All so different but equally as pretty and wonderful.

I'm finishing up my little creations as we speak, so a photograph will soon follow.

feeling fresh ...

Hello all,

Just a quick post to give you all a look at what I'm working on at the moment.
With spring well on it's way I've been looking at colour palettes which are fresh, concentrating on earth tones with accents of metallics or flashes of boldness.
I've used this image (from a back issue of Living Etc) to convey the type of colour balancing I am looking at.

I've whipped up this moodboard to help me concentrate on colour, possible use of pattern and fabrics. Thinking about muted metallic woven fabrics against oatmeal linen to make the base of the palette. Fresh, simple and easy to mix and match!

Anyways, more development to come.

comfy corners ...

Hello everyone!

So after a sunshine filled weekend, as luck would have it Monday has been sprinkled, or shall I more appropriately say, showered with rain. Not the most motivational or mood enhancing way to start the week, but ho hum!
With the rain and cold wind I felt it was only my duty to post some lovely, cozy images to make you look forward to a hopefully relaxing Monday evening.

These images make me want to cram every corner of my room with a fluffy cushion or woolen throw!

my absolute favourite. Lush!

gris et rose ...

Hello all,
Another day, another room. I have created a mood board and room design for a bedroom which was inspired by a photograph that I found about two years ago, yet it's still as fresh and stylish as ever. The grey walls, variation in textures and surface finishes create a calm and sophisticated space.

I just can't get enough of grey walls! What are your favourite wall colours?

Flashing Colour ...

Hello all,

Once again I have been creating interior designs to add to my growing collection, which will eventually be on my website which is soon to come. I'm planning on having a portfolio of moodboards and renders on my website, though I'm still very much in the thick of planning, creating and working it out. I thought I'd share another one of my room designs with you all today. After seeing a beautiful, electric blue upholstered chair in Living Etc I felt inspired to think about using such bold colours in a subtle and perhaps safer way in a room. Personally I love statement furniture and would have a bold, colourful piece in my own room, but this is purely down to personal preference. Because of this I have decided to create a room for the more reluctant decorator.  With neutral walls and furniture I think such bold colours can work brilliantly in accessories and decoration. This can be achieved through using colourful cushions, throws, vases or a great feature wall.

Below is my developing design based around this theme. Of course I've used yellow along side the electric blue (my yellow obsession is obviously still going strong). Here's a glimpse of what I've been working on.

3D floor plan - concentrating on layout and structure. Two walls made out of windows to flood room with light - compliments the bright colours used for decoration.

2D plan.  Focusing on detailing of decoration.

final photo quality image. I am really happy with how the layout and colour ways have came out!

building blocks ...

So, after trying to get to grips with 3D floor plans for a while, I think I'm just about getting the hang of it now. I've started playing around on some software, trying to create and furnish 4 different rooms which create the downstairs of a house. This is a really great way for me to transfer ideas from my moodboards to printable renders. Below I've got some images of what I've done so far, starting from the basics and working my way up to furnishing one of the rooms. It takes a long while (mostly because I can't decide what products to place because there are too many lovely things) but it is really satisfying once you see the rendered image at the end of all the hard work.

My final rendered design

I can't believe how realistic my design looks when it's put through photographic rendering. I love this process, having this printable render makes it feel like every moodboard I create has an end product. For now, I couldn't be happier.

What do you guys think? You like?

My Decor ...

Hello.
So today I have stumbled across a real treat! As many of you know I am somewhat addicted to Polyvore - a website that enables me to create sets for fashion and products, however I have been on the hunt (for a long while) for a website that provides this type of service but is dedicated solely to interiors. And today my friends, I have found it. http://mydeco.com/
This is a fantastic website for all you fellow interior enthusiasts. It allows you to create your own profile, it's there where you can start to build up a collection of self created moodboards, 3-D rooms and save all of your favourite photographs and "wish list" products. You can also connect with other members from the website and share ideas and inspiration. Although I am a newbie to this site, I am already loving it. So below I thought I'd share my first moodboard from mydecor.com

I'll start to post a moodboard / 3-D room set up once a week, I think it will be a great way for me to display my latest inspirations and ideas.
Hope you like it.

Colour me yellow ...

Hello all!
Happy weekend.
Today I thought i'd share a few beautiful images of my most recent styling obsession. YELLOW. This colour in my opinion works fantastically in any room, whether used in fabrics, wall paper , wall art or decoration it really gives a stylish edge.
I particularly like the yellow stained wooden chairs! They look great against the white units. So if you're feeling brave (and stylish) and want to add a splash of sunshine to your room this spring, then why not try yellow. As the last image tells you " Yellow is the new black"
