delectably dark ...

Hello all,

So as much as I have complained about this awful, rainy weather there is one good thing that has came out of it ... inspiration. The wet and cold days and nights have made me look for some comforting yet luxurious interiors, and I must admit I have fell hook, line and sinker for the dark, winter look.

There is something about dark stained walls and textured textiles that screams luxury and what better place to have this sprinkling of luxury than the bedroom. If there is one room in your home that should evoke a feeling of escapism, luxury and comfort, it's the bedroom. Dark stained walls, amazing feature lighting, sumptuous bedding and textiles with the perfectly placed bloom all come together to create my idea of heaven. Want to know what my idea of heaven may look like? .... the images below will certainly lead you down the right path.

ice white and brushed gold ...

Hello all,

So today I have been looking online for some paint samples as I have a a fair few frames to stain and colour, this time I was determined to steer away from my usual Pavillion Grey by Farrow and Ball, though my eternal favourite, this time I wanted to go for something a little different. Though I'm not actually looking for a bold colour, I much prefer frames to be natural wood and neutral shades or muted metallics. You would think this would be relatively simple, but there are so many different shades between white and oatmeal and bronze and gold. So with this I decided to pull together some images that used the type of colour palette I was after, this has made selecting the sample pots a lot easier.  Below are some of my favourite looks which showcase my new favourite colour combination.

lovely lighting ...

Hello all,

So this week / month I am obsessing over lighting, during a birthday trip to Dublin over the weekend I stumbled across a shop, this shop was beautiful, eclectic and memorizing. I have always always wanted to open my own interior and lifestyle store, during rainy days I often sit and draw out exactly how I would like the store fit  and styling of my dream store to be. And well, it was as if someone had sneaked away with one of my drawings and set up shop in this little hidden lane in Dublin. It was my idea of perfection, fantastic window displays, charming products and an endearing interior style, a mix of old and new. I will be dedicating a post to this beautiful store tomorrow, but it was a product found in this shop that prompted todays post. Hanging lovingly over my head as I rummaged through a textile corner of the store, a pendant lighting piece, totally unique it proudly hung amongst the plethora of other interior accessories, but it was the fragility of the structure that captured my eye. Made out of reclaimed china it was pieced together through craft and a good dose of labor intensive love, this lovely lighting piece only fuelled (was that a pun?) my obsession for great lighting and the impact a statement piece can have.

With this I thought I would share some of my favourite finds from the last seven days. Take a peak below and see what you think.

just my cup of tea ...

Hello all,

Now as past posts have proven, I am a bit obsessive over table settings, glass ware and pretty ceramic finds of all shapes, colour and sizes. But for the last few weeks there has been one crockery essential that has been at the helm of my obsession. The humble tea cup. A classic but now, ever so stylish addition to many a persons home, no longer just a holder of a comforting cup of tea oh no, tea cups are seriously stylish, whether they are in full bloom with cut flower heads, weighed down in scented wax for the prettiest candles around or merely used to hold some of your glitziest jewellery, the tea cup is the all rounder.

Don't believe me? Check out the images below. Next time you stick the kettle on, why not route out your prettiest tea cup and see what stylish use you can put it to!

So if these beautiful images have inspired you but you don't have any ever so stylish tea cups of your own, my top tip is pop into your local charity shops. Apart from the odd one or two more fancier ones, my collection of these little beauties have all come from charity shops, none costing over £1.00 for two, they often come in a mix matching of sets which is even more lovely not to mention en vogue!

Hello all,

My favourite colour. One which I will never tire of, whether it be in the form of beautiful berry shades or the not so shrinking violet. I am forever a fan if not obsessive of all things purple.

flower bomb ...

Hello all,

This week I have been looking for inspirational images of flower arrangements and colour palettes. I am planning on making a garland for the courtyard at my sisters wedding reception, so I have been scoping out images which show blooms in all their glory, large open flowers with seasonal buds and trailing vines, I can't think of anything more visually appealing and classical.

I have taken inspiration from fashion as well as interiors, the colours that interior trends provide along with the structures found in floral headpieces have allowed me to think more literally about making a garland. So it's practice ahoy, you never know, the images below may even inspire you to have a floral friday.

Happy Weekend ...

Hello there,

What a perfect start to the weekend, an uninterrupted, sunny March day. Not just sunny, warm in fact and although I wasn't able to spend the day basking in the glory of such a rarity it definitely helped put me in a brighter mood. I am ironically full of a winter cold, so this dose of sunshine was very much needed. It's because of this lovely sunshine that I started to get excited for the summer, warmer days and lighter evenings, a combination which seems to make everyone that little bit more happy.

I have already started my S/S mood boards, collecting any imagery which depicts the brightness, easy going and spontaneous mood that summer exudes. Here is a glimpse of the type of imagery which reminds me that summer is well on its way. Fresh colours, fun print combinations and an almost breezy "anything goes" attitude towards design.

Happy Weekend,

Enjoy the sunshine and remember to put your clocks forward tonight... yes you may lose an hour of sleep but this means we are one step closer to sublime summer!

fly by ...

 Hello everyone,

I can not believe how quickly the time seems to be passing by this year, almost half way through March and I still feel as though I've only just said goodbye to Christmas.
I have been somewhat distracted over the past weeks, life can get a little hectic and take unexpected turns which alter all plans, resolutions and good intentions (in terms of my daily blogging).
Now that things seems to have settled down I have the luxury of being able to once again get back to my blog and post the images which keep me inspired and motivated in the times where I need it most.

As spring is soon upon us... yes the weather may not be a great reference point but the clothes and interior trends do offer a very gentle and sugary sweet reminder.
So with spring and optimism on my mind I riffled through my archives, blogs and online magazines to discover these images below which have captured my imagination and filled my sketchbook pages. The colours found in the collection of images below have inspired me to get out my watercolours, my favourite and perhaps most idea effective past time.

Colour is such an amazing trigger point to any idea or project, and it is with these beautiful colour combinations that I feel compelled to get my creative juices flowing.

Hope you feel a little inspired too.

Enjoy!
